Los Gatos Museums Gallery
May 2-June 30, 2016
The Los Gatos Museums Gallery comprises over fifty Bay Area artists, showing their work in an inviting downtown Los Gatos venue. The art changes often, making the gallery an exciting stop for art lovers and collectors who value local, original artwork. Paintings, sculpture and photography in a variety of styles from abstract and expressionistic to traditional realism are included in the gallery. Sales at the gallery help support The New Museum Los Gatos. The artwork on exhibit features a small selection of paintings by Georgesse Gomez, Michael Rogan, and Tom Yacoe.
Georgesse Gomez, an impressive representational painter whose meditative brush strokes attract collectors worldwide, has been recognized in regional and national juried competitions. Georgesse’s prolific body of work covers the spectrum of figurative, still life and landscape painting. She has exhibited at San Francisco’s de Young Museum, Mountainsong Galleries, Carmel, CA, Brilliance Gallery through Cutter and Cutter Fine Art, St. Augustine, FLA and Dunnegan Gallery of Fine Art, MO. She is currently exhibiting at Los Gatos Museum Gallery, Los Gatos, CA. and Morgan Hill Gallery, Morgan Hill, CA. Georgesse continues to study under living masters who play a prominent role in the Contemporary Realism movement.
Tom Yacoe is a California landscape painter born in Chicago in 1955. From an early age he was influenced by the world famous collections at the Art Institute of Chicago. But it was later as a teenager living in California's Central Valley that he first experienced the California landscape. From Carmel to Jenner to Yosemite to Lake Tahoe these scenes began to fill his artistic vision.
Tom studied painting at UC Berkeley and the San Francisco Art Institute and received his BFA in Painting from the SFAI in 1977. He also earned Teaching Credentials in Fine Arts from Sonoma State University in 1987 and an MA in Art Education from Stanford University in 1996. Tom studied painting with a number of iconic California artists at UC Berkeley and the SFAI.
It was at UC Berkeley that he was strongly drawn to Abstract Impressionism and especially the work of Hans Hoffmann. His strongest influences include Hoffmann, Josef Albers, and Richard Diebenkorn. In fact, Albers' masterwork "The Interaction of Color" forms the basis of Tom’s use of color to evoke mood, emotion, and memory.
Tom paints exclusively from memory in his studio in Santa Clara. These "Intimate California Landscapes" draw viewers into a personal relationship of time, place, and experience and have been a work in progress for 15 years.
