On November 8, 2015, at approximately 1:00 p.m., an unprovoked assault occurred at Blossom Hill Park. Two suspects approached the victims in the parking lot of the park and began assaulting them.
One of the suspects exited the vehicle, armed with an axe, and began swinging it at the three victims. The other suspect exited the vehicle, brandished a knife, and attempted to stab the victims while lifting his shirt and displaying a concealed firearm in his waistband. When the victims attempted to leave in their vehicle, the suspects intentionally drove their stolen vehicle into the victims' vehicle, prior to fleeing the scene. None of the victims sustained any injuries during the assault.Los Gatos Monte-Sereno Police Detectives conducted further investigation and identified the two assailants as JACOB MAHONEY, 20 years old of Los Gatos, and RICHARD MONTOSA 20 years old of San Jose. Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department coordinated efforts with the Regional Auto Theft Task Force (RATTF), who were actively investigating MAHONEY and MONTOSA for stealing vehicles.
On November 9, 2015, RATTF Detectives conducted surveillance and arrested RICHARD MONTOSA and JACOB MAHONEY in San Jose. Both suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for brandishing a weapon and assault with a deadly weapon related to the Los Gatos investigation. In addition, both MAHONEY and MONTOSA were arrested for additional charges related to the RATTF investigation.
"This is an excellent example of the efficient and collaborative efforts that the Regional Auto Theft Task Force provides to our local agencies, specifically as a resource to the apprehension of violent criminals who are associated with stolen vehicles," stated Chief Matt Frisby.
