Lifesaving Information For Emergencies (L.I.F.E.) File
Emergencies can happen when we least expect them to and many of the requests for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) happen within the home. The Town of Los Gatos is partnering with the Santa Clara County Fire Department to promote their new L.I.F.E. file program. The L.I.F.E. File is a simple tool individuals and families may use to assist emergency responders during a medical emergency. First Responders rely heavily upon the patient, and/or the patient’s family members, to provide information used to help in the treatment and care of the patient. However, there are times when the patient is unable to provide this information and family members may not be present or available to assist First Responders during a medical emergency. The L.I.F.E. File information includes past pertinent medical history, allergies to medications, medications currently prescribed to the patient, advanced medical directives and any additional information. The L.I.F.E. File pouch is a vinyl magnetic pouch that is placed in an easily seen location on the front or side of the refrigerator. Starting next week the Town of Los Gatos will be distributing L.I.F.E. Files from Town Hall and the Santa Clara County Fire Department will have them available at our local fire stations. If you, or anyone you know, would like additional information on the L.I.F.E. File program please contact Jackie Rose/Community Outreach Coordinator at JRose@losgatosca.gov

Catch a R.Y.D.E.
R.Y.D.E. Senior Transportation Program is starting on October 23. More volunteer drivers are needed. Saratoga Area Senior Coordinating Council (SASCC) will be launching R.Y.D.E. at the Health Fair on October 21. Several elected officials, County Supervisor Joe Simitian, and the entire R.Y.D.E. team will be on hand at the event to discuss details, sign up volunteer drivers, and to show their support for this amazing program. The opening date of service is Monday, October 23. The Health Fair flyer is attached. The program is off to a good start with volunteers, but we would like to make sure that we have a lot of coverage, in anticipation of a high demand for this pilot program. Volunteers can work as little as 2 hours per week providing rides for seniors. This will significantly help a senior to age in their own home and help to prevent social isolation. Please consider signing up to help!

Join the Community Emergency Response TeamThe Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact the area and trains them in basic disaster response skills. Some of these disaster response skills include fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responsers can rely on during disaster situations. Through CERT, the capabilities to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters is built and enhanced.

Volunteers sought for Bike Valet at Local Events The Los Gatos Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission is supporting free Bike Valet parking at local events, building on the success of the Red, White and Blue block party, where we parked over 100 bikes, so we are ready with plenty of space and racks. Volunteering to park bikes is a ton of fun! You can sign up with some friends and make a date of it and high school students can even receive community service hours. Cyclists arriving at the event are always happy to see you and fun to talk to. Typically volunteers are needed for 2-hour shifts with each shift led by an experienced commissioner. If you would like to help out, please contact Maria Ristow, ristows@comcast.net to become a part of this amazing volunteer team. Help us take more cars off the road and make it easy for people to bike downtown.
