PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff

October 26, 2019 PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff

Due to high fire risk and weather conditions that include gusty winds, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) has announced a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) for Northern California starting Saturday, October 26 at about 6:00 p.m.  PG&E anticipates deactivating power from northern counties and moving south. This means Santa Clara County will be one of the later-affected counties with deactivation anticipated later in the evening.  PG&E will notify affected households via phone, text, and email, at 24 hours before the shutoff and just prior to shutting off power.  Residents could be without power for up to five days, or power could come back on much sooner, depending on conditions.  The best way to see if the power shutoff will affect you is by checking your address on the PG&E potential PSPS address-lookup map:  http://bit.ly/PGEaddress-lookup.

Get the latest information on a PSPS event on PG&E’s website here:
https://www.pge.com/pspsupdates.

In case of a PSPS, Town services are expected to function as normal, except the Library may be closed.

Lifesaving Information For Emergencies (L.I.F.E.) File

Emergencies can happen when we least expect them to and many of the requests for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) happen within the home. The Town of Los Gatos is partnering with the Santa Clara County Fire Department to promote their new L.I.F.E. file program. The L.I.F.E. File is a simple tool individuals and families may use to assist emergency responders during a medical emergency.   First Responders rely heavily upon the patient, and/or the patient’s family members, to provide information used to help in the treatment and care of the patient. However, there are times when the patient is unable to provide this information and family members may not be present or available to assist First Responders during a medical emergency. The L.I.F.E. File information includes past pertinent medical history, allergies to medications, medications currently prescribed to the patient, advanced medical directives and any additional information. The L.I.F.E. File pouch is a vinyl magnetic pouch that is placed in an easily seen location on the front or side of the refrigerator.

You may pick up L.I.F.E. Files from Town Hall and local fire stations. If you, or anyone you know, would like additional information on the L.I.F.E. File program please contact Jackie Rose, Community Outreach Coordinator at JRose@losgatosca.gov

Volunteers sought for Bike Valet at Local Events

The Los Gatos Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission is supporting free Bike Valet parking at local events, building on the success of the Red, White and Blue block party, where we parked over 100 bikes, so we are ready with plenty of space and racks. Volunteering to park bikes is a ton of fun! You can sign up with some friends and make a date of it and high school students can even receive community service hours. Cyclists arriving at the event are always happy to see you and fun to talk to. Typically volunteers are needed for 2-hour shifts with each shift led by an experienced commissioner. If you would like to help out, please contact Maria Ristow, ristows@comcast.net to become a part of this amazing volunteer team. Help us take more cars off the road and make it easy for people to bike downtown.
