Strategic Priorities

With input from staff and the Library Board,  our goal for the four-year strategic plan will reaffirm our commitment to offering a diverse range of library materials reflecting our belief in the richness of varied voices and narratives across all backgrounds, races, genders, sexual orientations, ethnic groups, identities, nation(s) of origin, religions, color, casts, and mental or physical abilities. By curating collections representing different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences, we strive to create an environment that celebrates and promotes a better understanding of inclusion among all members of our community.

Our institutional goals and priorities for the next four years focused on increasing access to new technology, diverse collections, and engagement with library services and resources, including providing library services in non-traditional spaces to ensure equal accessibility for all patrons.

In the coming years, we aim to lead the community in impactful civic engagement around anti-racism, inclusion, and equity. Our four-year plan is designed to uphold the core values of a modern library - ensuring a strong defense of access to materials and freedom from censorship, fostering opportunities for community-led dialog and discussion, and creating accessible programs for families, children, and individuals of all ages. By championing intellectual freedom and promoting open access to a wide array of resources, we empower individuals to explore diverse perspectives.

Our internal priorities are to support the creation and implementation of library policies that ensure equitable service, and respect, for all members of the public, including those who face racial inequity, disenfranchisement, or prejudice.

We aim to foster a culture of excellence, belonging, and inclusivity by affirming all library staff in their pursuit of happiness, success, and well-being. By investing in the professional development and continuing education of our staff we strive to ensure the stewardship of knowledge. We commit to seek out and prioritize relationship-building and meaningful collaboration with organizations that further our priorities of inclusion and education in our efforts to advance anti-racism and equity in our community.

In essence, our Four Year Strategic Priorities Plan embodies our unwavering commitment to promoting belonging, equity, and inclusion within our library. By embracing these core values and objectives, we are poised to elevate the impact of our services, strengthen community connections, and foster a more inclusive community.

Our Strategic Priorities 2024 - 2028:

  1. Diverse offerings of library materials:  Actively engage in procuring materials on a wide range of topics fully recognizing the diversity of backgrounds, opinions, and interests that make up our community.
  2. Strong defense of access to materials and freedom from censorship:  Hold strongly to the American Library Associations’ Freedom to Read principles and fight against attempts to restrict access to books or censorship attempts.
  3. Opportunities for community-led dialog and discussion: Foster safe spaces for open community dialog on a wide variety of topics and issues that impact us locally, nationally, and globally.
  4. Accessible programs for families, children, and all ages:  Maximize offerings of programming to a diverse community through a lens of removing financial barriers and opening access to all ability types, education levels, and backgrounds.
  5. Outreach to members of the community with limited mobility:  Work with partners established with transportation and delivery infrastructure to bring access to materials to community members with mobility limitations.
  6. Marketing and inter-agency communication:  Seek opportunities for collaboration with community partners to market and promote initiatives and services.
  7. Professional investment and continuing education of library staff:  Continue to ensure quality of services and retain talent through training and education investments for staff members.
  8. Community resilience center in times of emergency:  Develop the physical infrastructure and operational procedures to serve the community as a primary resource during times of emergency.
  9. Analyze usable library space to increase seating and quiet areas:  Adapt existing square footage in the Library to increase seating capacity and additional spaces for quiet work or study.
  10. Artificial Intelligence incorporation and education:  Proactively research and adopt AI tools into workflows for the benefit of the community and educate the community as AI technology advances while protecting privacy of data.
