Records
These professionals are responsible for the collection, review, coordination, dissemination, and retention of nearly every document generated by police officers in this agency. Additionally, they are responsible for the data entry of key pieces of information into the department’s Records Management System, County, State, and Federal databases.
The Records Specialists also greet citizens, either on the phone or at the counter, who are seeking assistance on a police matter. They provide public assistance for a myriad of police related tasks, such as arranging for a citation sign-off on a fix it ticket or a self-surrender on an outstanding warrant. They help with the preparation of reports going to the District Attorney, preparation of a response to a civil subpoena, or the release of a police report to an authorized individual.
The personnel who staff the Records Unit are an integral part of the police organization. The knowledge and skills they must have to do their job is extensive. As procedures, policies, technology and laws change, they must constantly adapt to a new way of doing business. The Los Gatos/MonteSereno Police Department is very proud of the professionals we have staffing our Records Unit.
The Los Gatos Monte Sereno Police Department employs three full time Police Records Specialists who currently staff the Records public counter Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and Friday afternoons by appointment only.
CommunicationsThe Los Gatos Monte Sereno Police Department employs seven full time police dispatchers who work alternating shifts seven days per week, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. These professionals answer all incoming 911 calls and non-emergency calls for service. The Communications center has the ability to access a translation service in order to take calls from citizens who may need to communicate in their native language. They also have access to a TTD system for the hearing impaired to help insure that the emergency needs of our citizens are met.
The dispatcher is the vital link between the citizen and the officer who will be sent to the call. Not only do they relay information from the caller to the officer in the field, they have the ability to access several different law enforcement databases to obtain critical information that will assist the patrol officer. Dispatchers are also the primary link to other law enforcement agencies who may be called upon for emergency assistance should the need arise. You can call a Police Dispatcher at 408-354-8600 for immediate assistance.
Police dispatcher candidates undergo an extensive public safety background check prior to employment. It is important to us that we hire the best individuals we can find in order to meet the demands of this unique position. Upon selection, new dispatchers will receive intensive in-house training and will also be certified through POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training). Most of our dispatchers are trained in crisis intervention (CIT). Dispatchers have the opportunity to expand upon their skills by attending specialized instruction in subjects such as a Tactical Dispatching, Communications Training Officer, Hostage Negotiations and Peer Counseling courses. The Los Gatos Monte Sereno Police Department is extremely proud of our professional and dedicated dispatch team.
