Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan
Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan 2020 Update
At the September 1st meeting, the Town Council approved the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (BPMP) update. This update was focused on Chapter 4, Network Recommendations and Project Prioritization.
The 2020 Active Transportation Survey, which was open to the public from July 2nd to July 24th, helped inform the BPMP updates. The community identified several potential pedestrian and bicycle improvement projects which were then included in this update.
This update also includes an exciting new online interactive map and project information. The map reflects the projects identified in the BPMP from tables 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4. Table 4.2, “Connect Los Gatos Prioritized Projects” now reflects the Town’s top priority bicycle and pedestrian improvement projects as Connect Los Gatos Projects.
Connect Los Gatos is a program of bicycle and pedestrian projects that promote connectivity and improve the multimodal network throughout the Town. The program will expand and provide safe access to key community destination points. Connect Los Gatos makes it easier and safer for all to bike and walk in Los Gatos. This BPMP update strengthens the Connect Los Gatos program by expanding the scope of projects under Connect Los Gatos to all prioritized projects. Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan Update
Since the adoption of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (BPMP) in March 2017, the Town has made substantial progress in implementing the Plan’s priorities. The Town is now updating the BPMP to reflect the progress made so far, and to clearly identify the priorities for the future. This update is an important step in assuring the Connect Los Gatos program’s long-term success.
Purpose
The goal of this BPMP update is to create a platform for the public, commissioners, and staff to use to gain an understanding of current, past, and future pedestrian and cyclist improvement projects. Updating the Town’s BPMP will better reflect the Connect Los Gatos Projects and ensure that there is consistency between the town’s current programs and the towns long range goals. It will also provide meaningful context to support future funding opportunities and decision making. The update will also introduce an online interactive map and updated project tables.
2017 Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan
In April 2016, the Los Gatos Town Council approved a consultant services agreement with Placeworks, a planning and mobility consulting firm, to prepare the Town’s first Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (BPMP). Placeworks and Town staff worked closely with the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission (BPAC) on the Master Plan which will provide the Town with a roadmap for enhancing bicycle and pedestrian mobility throughout the Town by identifying and prioritizing projects, policies and programs that will help make Los Gatos a more comfortable place to bike and walk.
