Recent advancement of small cell wireless technology has consequently led to an increased demand for improved (and faster) wireless connectivity for smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. As a result, in the near future telecommunications companies will be coordinating with the Town with the goal of installing cellular infrastructure improvements. The locations of these facilities would be within the public right-of-way.
The implementation of wireless sites, also referred to as small cell facilities, in the public right-of-way will require installation of telecommunications equipment on streetlight poles. The Town recognizes the need to maintain the aesthetic character and small-town charm and ambiance in our neighborhoods, districts and communities. Therefore, the Town is requiring that proposed facilities include equipment that is intelligently designed, moderately sized and does not exceed a certain set of dimensions, among other requirements. Installation of small cell facilities within the right-of-way requires an Encroachment Permit as well as additional agreements, analyses and supporting documents.
